VOLOTEA SUCCESSFULLY RENEWS IOSA CERTIFICATION, REAFFIRMING ITS ONGOING COMMITMENT TO AIR SAFETY
The airline has renewed its certification through 2027, strengthening its position as a reliable and high-performing air operator.
The audit yielded excellent results, attributed to the advanced maturity of Volotea’s Safety Management System (SMS).
Barcelona, May 29th, 2025 – Volotea, the airline connecting small and mid-sized European cities, has renewed its IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certification through 2027. This renewal, achieved under the new IOSA Risk-Based Audit (RBI) methodology, reaffirms the airline’s strong commitment to operational safety and its position as a reliable, high-performing air operator.
The audit, conducted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), concluded with highly satisfactory results across all evaluated areas, with particular recognition given to the maturity of Volotea’s Safety Management System (SMS), regulated by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The outcome reflects the airline’s proactive approach to identifying and managing operational risks, supported by a deeply embedded culture of safety across the organization. According to the IATA lead auditor, Volotea’s SMS was described as “one of the best Safety Management Systems audited, based on experience from more than 200 IOSA audits, with a clear presence of safety culture throughout the organization and strong performance given Volotea’s operational complexity and geographical dispersion.”
“The renewal of our IOSA certification demonstrates that Volotea complies with the highest safety standards, and we are particularly proud to have reached an outstanding level in our Safety Management System (SMS). Volotea was also one of the first airlines to obtain this certification under the new Risk-Based Audit (RBI) methodology,” said Eduard Diviu, Chief Operating Officer.
IOSA audits thoroughly assess all operational aspects of an airline, including management, execution, oversight, and control. In this most recent audit, Volotea received particularly positive evaluations in cabin crew training management and Flight Data Monitoring (FDM)—both essential for conducting flight operations under strict safety and efficiency standards. The airline’s Cybersecurity program was also highlighted, noted for its robust implementation and strong preparedness for upcoming regulatory changes under EASA’s new Part-IS framework.
By renewing this accreditation, Volotea further consolidates its position among the select group of air operators that not only comply with EASA regulations but also exceed international safety standards—remaining at the forefront of an increasingly demanding and tightly regulated industry.
