Volotea Fair Travel Promise
1. Information about Volotea Fair Travel Promise
Remember that this policy may apply to you if you have a confirmed reservation between March 16 and June 10, 2026.
At Volotea we believe travelling should be simple fair and transparent.
We all hope the situation in the Middle East, which escalated on February 28th, 2026, will stabilize soon. Until then, we’re here to make your travel a little easier.
That's why we have activated in accordance with our General Conditions of Carriage our Fair Travel Promise, which is never retroactive and only appies to bookings made on or after March 16th 2026, always informed in advance during the booking process, and until further notice. This policy is built on three commitments to our passengers:
1. We do things differently - never high fixed fuel surcharge in your ticket
Unlike many airlines, we do not under any circumstances include fixed fuel costs in your ticket price. At Volotea, we prefer a different approach: we keep our fares as low as possible and only adjust fuel costs in a limited and proportionate manner just when extraordinary situations make it absolutely necessary, like the current situation in the Middle East.
2. Full transparency.
In exceptional events significantly affect fuel prices, such as the current situation in Middle East, we may apply limited and proportionate adjustments to ticket prices to reflect changes in fuel costs.
To keep everything clear and predictable in this exceptional situation, we follow the following principles.
-
Seven (7) days before departure of your flight, we review fuel market prices.
-
If prices increase, an adjustment is applied according to a defined and transparent table.
-
In the contrary, if prices decrease we will refund you the difference according to the amounts defined in the same table.
This way, you always know how the price is calculated and what maximum adjustment can be applicable. And, more importantly, this applies in both ways.
For greater transparency, you will find below a clear table indicating the thresholds and the amounts from which the adjustment will be applied (if applicable), based on the potential variation in fuel prices due to the instability resulting from the Middle East conflict:
This table has been prepared taking into account the following principles:
-
Taking into consideration a public and objective index (see section 2. Below).
-
The calculation is based on the variation of the market reference index. For clarity, the reference index is the Brent crude oil settlement price (US$/barrel) on the last available date prior to the calculation.
-
The adjustment will be limited to the actual impact of that increase on the fuel cost.
In order to ensure transparency and allow you to anticipate the potential impact on the ticket price, we have established both a maximum and a minimum adjustment amount. The adjustment may range from +€14 to −€14 per ticket.
The adjustment is calculated based on variations in fuel market prices compared to a reference average price of between USD 65 and USD 75 per barrel, as estimated by Volotea, and applied in accordance with the table set out above.
Under no circumstances will any upward adjustment exceed €14 per passenger per flight. Any increase in fuel costs beyond this amount will be borne by Volotea.
3. Our commitment to full flexibility
We also know that making travel plans can be more difficult during uncertain times.
That’s why the Fair Travel Promise includes maximum flexibility through our Flex service. Your booking will include such Flex service at no cost for you.
With Flex, passengers will be able to change their flight or cancel their booking free of charge up to four (4) hours before departure of the flight. You can check all Flex benefits here. This gives you the freedom to adapt your plans if needed.
Our goal is simple: to offer transparent pricing, fair rules and the flexibility you need to travel with confidence.
If you would like more details about how this mechanism works, you can find additional information in the FAQs below or contact our Customer Service team.
Back2. When could an adjustment be applied?
To ensure transparency, this variation is evaluated using public and verifiable indices from the international aviation fuel market in the last available date prior to the calculation. In this case, it is used Brent crude oil (US$/barrel) index as a reference, it is published, accessible and regularly updated by many finance websites and news publications.
Furthermore, the mechanism is only activated if:
-
(i) The variation exceeds a significant threshold, in accordance with the table set out above, which prevents the application of adjustments for normal market fluctuations.
(ii) This policy is never retroactive and only applies to bookings made as of March 16, 2026 and always informed in advance during the booking process.
(iii) If the booking is made with more than seven (7) days in advance of the flight departure date.
3. What happens if fuel prices go down?
As part of our Fare Travel Promise, this mechanism functions equally in both directions.
If the market reference indicator experiences a significant reduction under comparable conditions, the adjustment will also be applied downwards, and we will inform you before the flight and proceed with a refund.
Back4. Will I be notified before the flight?
Yes. Should it be necessary to apply an adjustment, we will inform you clearly and at least seven (7) days before the flight departure via the email address provided in the booking. We kindly ask you to stay tuned to our communications.
In such case you will receive a link to complete the payment of the applicable adjustment. If the payment is not completed and the Flex option is not exercised, the booking will remain with an outstanding amount, subject Volotea’s Conditions of Carriage accepted at the time of the booking.
If the application of the Fair Travel Commitment results in a price reduction, the corresponding amount will be refunded to you.
We remind you that any booking made from March 16, 2026 onwards will include the Volotea Flex plan at no additional cost, allowing you to change your flight date without any extra charge (except for any fare difference that may apply) or cancel your booking up to 4 hours before departure, and receive Volotea credit for future use. If you decide to use Volotea Flex plan, any amount charged to you as a result of the applicability of the Fair Travel Commitment policy will be refunded accordingly.
Back5. Our Commitment to Transparency
This mechanism is temporary and is intended only for extraordinary and infrequent situations that affect the global energy market, such as the current situation in Middle East.
Our objective is to continue offering clear, competitive, and transparent fares, while maintaining our ability to operate our flights safely and sustainably, even in contexts of strong market volatility.
